IMPLEMENTATION

Viewers responsible for this format

AZW is associated with Kindle ebooks, but the filename alone does not establish the internal version or protection status. Anyfile inspects the Palm database and MOBI header, then reconstructs supported book content. This is useful for an unprotected local copy; it does not connect to a Kindle account or retrieve purchases.

Common question

Why does an AZW copied from my Kindle fail to open?

It may be protected or use an unsupported internal layout. Copying a file off a device does not make it unprotected. Use the authorized reader for that book rather than changing its suffix.

Is every AZW file an AZW3 book?

No. Do not infer a precise format generation from AZW alone. This reader checks the content; AZW3 specifically points to the KF8 family described on its own page.
