The viewer does not split, optimize or edit animation frames

Common question

How can I view a GIF frame by frame?

Open a local GIF, pause the animation and use Previous frame or Next frame. Choose 0.25× or 0.5× for slow playback, or return to 1× for normal speed. Frame controls require a supported browser.

Why can a GIF show color banding?

Each frame uses a limited indexed palette, so photographs and gradients may lose color detail.
