Pause, inspect frames and change animation speed
Choose a local image from Files on your phone or computer. Pause, inspect the previous or next frame, then play to continue. Choose 0.25×–4× speed for slow or fast playback. Zoom, rotate and fit remain available. Controls require frame decoding support for the format; other browsers show a native preview with an explanation.
Download the original APNG sample
You can also click Samples beside Open folder, then choose a file from the Animation samples folder. These original gradient images were generated by Anyfile for trying the viewer.
What Anyfile can show
- Play/pause, frame-by-frame viewing and 0.25×–4× playback speed when supported
- Frame counts, decoded frame timing and loop information
- Animated frames with alpha transparency
- The browser-decoded image at its intrinsic size
Limits and conditions
- Frame controls require ImageDecoder support for this format; otherwise native preview is used
- Controlled animation: 128 MiB input, 8192 pixels per edge, 16 Mi pixels per frame and 64 Mi pixels across all frames
- Frame timing and blending depend on the browser decoder
- The viewer does not extract or edit individual frames
IMPLEMENTATION
Viewers responsible for this format
APNG extends PNG with animation control and frame data while retaining PNG-compatible chunks. Anyfile verifies that the browser can decode the selected image before displaying its animation.
Common question
Can I pause an APNG and inspect its transparent frames?
Yes, in a supported browser. Pause, step backward or forward and use the checkerboard background to inspect transparency. The viewer keeps the decoded blending and disposal behavior and offers 0.25×–4× playback.
What happens if APNG is opened by an older PNG-only tool?
The format is designed so a PNG-only decoder can often show the default image while ignoring animation chunks.
